Summary

A quick summary of the manga JUJUTSU KAISEN is as follows:

On the playing field, Yuuji is a genius! Except for the fact that he is not interested in participating in school activities. After joining the occult research group, he makes the decision to lead a solitary existence; nevertheless, when the new scent is introduced at school, everything is turned upside down.

Gege Akutami is the author and illustrator of the Jujutsu Kaisen () manga series, which was first published in Japan. Since March 2018, it has been published as a chapter-by-chapter installment in the young adult manga magazine Weekly Shnen Jump by Shueisha. As of December 2022, its chapters will have been compiled and published in a total of 21 tankbon volumes. Yuji Itadori, a student at a high school, is the protagonist of this novel. He is recruited by a shadowy group of Jujutsu Sorcerers to rid the world of a tremendous curse known as Ryomen Sukuna, of which Yuji becomes the host. Akutami’s Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School was originally published in Shueisha’s Jump GIGA from April to July 2017, and then later collected in a tankbon volume, which was retroactively titled as Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and released in December 2018. Jujutsu Kaisen is a sequel to that series. Akutami created it.

Viz Media owns the license to publish the English-language version of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga in North America, and the company has been publishing the manga in print since December 2019. The series is made available in English by Shueisha and may be read on the Manga Plus website. Both May 2019 and January 2020 saw the publication of one of Ballad Kitaguni’s books. Both novels were authored by Kitaguni. MAPPA was responsible for the production of the anime television series adaption, which consisted of 24 episodes and was shown on MBS between October 2020 and March 2021. Outside of Asia, streaming of the anime is authorized by Crunchyroll, and the first episode of the English dub is scheduled to air in November 2020. The original music of the anime was made available for purchase in April of 2021. The launch of the show’s second season is scheduled for the month of July in 2023.

It is one of the manga series that has sold the most copies overall, and as of August 2022, the Jujutsu Kaisen manga had over 70 million copies in circulation. This number does not include related novels, digital versions, or Jujutsu Kaisen 0, but it still makes it one of the best-selling manga series ever.

Synopsis

According to the teachings of Jujutsu Kaisen, all living things exude an energy known as Cursed Energy (, Juryoku). This energy is said to originate from the bad emotions that freely circulate throughout the body. The flow in most people’s bodies is difficult, if not impossible, to manage. As a consequence of this, they sustain ongoing losses of Cursed Energy, which leads to the generation of Curses (Japanese:, Noroi), a race of spiritual beings whose main goal is to do damage to humankind. These calamities are depicted as hideous beasts with evil intentions.

People who control the flow of Cursed Energy in their bodies are known as Jujutsu Sorcerers (, Jujutsushi, lit. “Cursed Technique Masters” or “Shamans”). This gives them the ability to utilize Cursed Energy as they choose and also to minimize the amount of it that is released. High-ranking Sorcerers and Curses are able to develop this energy and utilize it to conduct Cursed Techniques (Jujutsushiki), which are often unique to the person or their family. These techniques may be performed by using the energy itself. The Domain Expansion (, Ryuki Tenkai) technique is a more sophisticated variation of the Cursed Technique. With this technique, practitioners construct a pocket dimension with a configurable size. Once within the domain, every one of their strikes will automatically link with one another and develop in power.

Plot:

Yuji Itadori is a high school student in Sendai who has an incredible level of physical fitness. Itadori’s grandpa imparts two life-changing pieces of advice to his grandson as he lies on his deathbed: “always assist others” and “die surrounded by others.” Itadori’s companions in the Occult Club opened a rotting finger talisman, which caused Itadori to become host to a strong Curse called Ryomen Sukuna. This action caused Curses to be drawn to their school. Megumi Fushiguro and Itadori’s other friends were in danger as a result of Itadori’s actions. Because Sukuna is a malevolent being, it is imperative that all sorcerers quickly cast an exorcism spell against him (and, by implication, Itadori). Megumi’s teacher Satoru Gojo brings Itadori to the Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School with a proposal to his superiors: postpone Itadori’s death sentence and train under Gojo until he consumes all of Sukuna’s fingers so that the Curse can be eliminated. Megumi’s teacher Satoru Gojo brings Itadori to the school after observing that Itadori was able to maintain control over his body. At the same time, a group of cursed spirits prepare a multi-layered assault on the realm of jujutsu sorcery. Included in this group is the cursed spirit Mahito, as well as a perverted sorcerer by the name of Suguru Geto, who was put to death by Gojo one year earlier. During the jujutsu competition that took place between the Tokyo and Kyoto schools, the headmaster of the Kyoto school demanded that Itadori be eliminated immediately. On the other hand, some others, such as Gojo’s fellow student Nobara Kugisaki, support his efforts to protect Itadori’s life.

Kokichi Muta, a second-year student at Kyoto Jujutsu Tech and the Mechamaru’s pilot, is revealed to be a mole in this chapter. Geto and the spirits of the curse erect a screen over Shibuya. A wide variety of sorcerers make their way to the location to engage in combat with them. Geto traps Gojo within a certain item after Gojo has vanquished evil spirits and freed Hanami from her possession by a curse. The incidents also demonstrate that the present Geto is not the original Geto but rather the corpse of Geto that has been possessed by an ancient sorcerer known as Kenjaku. Even though Gojo is still held captive inside the artifact, Itadori and his comrades square off against Kenjaku’s army. As the episode comes to a close, Kenjaku reveals that he has been moving from body to body for thousands of years and implanting Binding Vows. This has resulted in the awakening of thousands of new sorcerers all throughout Japan, including Megumi’s step-sister Tsumiki Fushiguro. After that, he lets loose a flood of curses on Japan, which ushered in an era of chaos and a realm filled with cursed spirits similar to those that existed during the Heian period.

Following the events that took place, Itadori and Megumi teamed up with Yuta Okkotsu, a second-year student, and Yuki Tsukumo, a special grade jujutsu sorcerer and one of the most powerful sorcerers in the history of the world, as well as Choso, a half-human, half-Curse student, and Maki Zen’in, also a second-year student, in order to meet Tengen, an immortal jujutsu sorcerer who is part-human and part-Curse, discloses Kenjaku’s goal to fuse his mind with Japan’s human population so that he may rule over both. The Kenjaku’s all-out battle between the sorcerers and Curse users of Japan then starts with the Culling Game.
